USC receiver Kyle Prater suffered a foot fracture during off-season workouts and will be sidelined for six to eight weeks, the school announced.

Prater is expected to sit out most of spring practice, which begins next month.

It’s the latest setback for the 6-foot-5, 210-pound Prater, an Illinois native who enrolled at USC in January 2010 but redshirted last season after suffering several injuries.

Prater is hoping to earn playing time as part of a receiver corps that will include sophomore Robert Woods, a returning starter, senior Brandon Carswell and sophomore Markeith Ambles, among others. Incoming freshman George Farmer also is expected to contend for a starting spot.
