UCLA football: Kentucky’s Steve Brown interviewed for defensive coordinator spot

Kentucky Assistant Coach Steve Brown interviewed for the UCLA defensive coordinator job this week, according to a person familiar with the search who was not authorized to talk on the subject.

Brown was Kentucky’s defensive coordinator the last four seasons. He has been an assistant at Kentucky since 2003, spending four seasons as the Wildcats’ defensive backs coach.

Kentucky ranked 45th in total defense and 72nd in scoring defense in 2010.

Brown was an assistant coach with the St. Louis Rams from 1995 to 2000, working mainly with the defensive secondary. He was the defensive backs coach in 1999, when the Rams won the Super Bowl.

Brown was a defensive back at Oregon and played for the Houston Oilers from 1983-90.

UCLA Coach Rick Neuheisel been through numerous defensive coordinator candidates since firing Chuck Bullough Dec. 18.
