WNBA: Ticha Penicheiro expected to re-sign with Sparks

Ticha_225 Ticha Penicheiro is expected to re-sign with the Sparks on Tuesday, according to a source close to the team who requested to remain anonymous because the WNBA has not yet announced the free-agent signings.

The veteran point guard averaged 4.9 points, four rebounds and 6.9 assists last season for the Sparks, who finished the regular season with a 13-21 record and were eliminated by the Seattle Storm in the first round of the playoffs.

Originally selected as the No. 2 overall pick in the 1998 draft by the Sacramento Monarchs, Penicheiro signed with the Sparks last February.

A four-time all-star, she is the league's all-time leader in assists (2,398) and steals (728) and has amassed 2,509 points and 1,372 rebounds in 401 career games.
