WNBA: Sparks season begins June 3

Parker_240 The 2011 Sparks season kicks off June 3 against the Minnesota Lynx at Staples Center at 8 p.m.

Both teams finished with a 13-21 record last season, but should be much improved when they meet this summer. The Lynx have the top pick in the 2011 draft, and the Sparks anticipate the return of Candace Parker, who missed much of last season after she dislocated her left shoulder on June 13 and had surgery.

Parker, the 2008 MVP and rookie of the year, was cleared to play in late December and went to Russia on Jan. 1 to play for her club team UMMC Ekaterinburg. In her first three games, she averaged 17.6 points and 10.6 rebounds in 23.6 minutes of play.
