Scott Boras did not fire back at Arte Moreno. After the Angels’ owner said Wednesday he had ‘no interest’ in meeting personally with Boras and would not even use the name of baseball’s most powerful agent in answering questions about him, Boras tipped his cap toward the Angels.

‘The Angels organization has been fairly extraordinary, in their handling of the Nick Adenhart situation,’ said Boras, referring to the pitcher who was killed by a convicted drunk driver after a 2009 game. ‘The work by [Angels President] John Carpino and [Vice President] Tim Mead is something I will never forget, what that organization did in a most difficult situation.’

Moreno, who cooled toward Boras after the Mark Teixeira negotiations in 2008, had deflected a question about Boras thusly: ‘My mother always told me, ‘If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.’ ‘

However, Moreno also said that General Manager Tony Reagins and other club executives could handle the Angels’ business with Boras, a point with which the agent concurred. The Angels this winter negotiated with Boras for third baseman Adrian Beltre -- albeit unsuccessfully -- and avoided arbitration by agreeing with Boras on a one-year, $2.975-million contract for first baseman Kendry Morales.

‘The conversations have been great,’ Boras said. ‘As far as we’re concerned, our discussions have taken a very welcome path.’

Moreno said the Angels had spoken with Boras about a long-term contract for pitcher Jered Weaver. Boras would not comment on those talks, saying he and the Angels had agreed to keep those discussions confidential.
