Eric Staal and Nicklas Lidstrom selected as NHL All-Star captains

January 18, 2011 | 10:49 am

All-stars_400 Carolina's Eric Staal and Detroit's Nicklas Lidstrom have been chosen as team captains by their fellow NHL all-stars. Now it's up to the two of them to determine who else plays on their teams.

Staal and Lidstrom will construct their teams during a live draft on Jan. 28, two days before the NHL All-Star game in Raleigh, N.C. Yet-to-be-determined alternate captains will assist in the decision-making process.

Under this new format, the Ducks' two all-stars -- right wing Corey Perry and goalie Jonas Hiller -- could end up on opposite teams. Center Anze Kopitar will be the sole representative from the Kings.
