When you’re in the American Hockey League and scoring points, it’s only a matter of time before the NHL club calls you up. And when you get that chance, you’d better not end up with a string of zeroes after your name.

That is what happened with Ducks’ center Nick Bonino on Monday, who was sent back down to the Syracuse Crunch, Anaheim’s primary development affiliate in the AHL.

Bonino, 22, appeared in 26 games for Anaheim this season but had zero points. He was recalled from Syracuse on two occasions -- on Nov. 1 and again on Nov. 24.

Before being called up, he appeared in eight games with the Crunch and had two goals and seven assists. In fact, when he was initially recalled from Syracuse on Nov. 1, Bonino led all AHL rookies in assists and was tied for second in scoring.

In March and April of last season, he appeared in nine Ducks games and had one goal and one assist in that stretch.
