Donald Trump is one of the best-known businessmen in the world.

Now he thinks he can play the role of athletic director.

Trump sent a letter this week to University of Miami President Donna Shalala strongly urging the Hurricanes to hire former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach as the head of the football program.

The billionaire encouraged the university to hire Leach back in 2006, but Miami ultimately chose Randy Shannon, who was let go Saturday after going just 28-22 with no ACC titles in his four seasons at the helm of the team.

Trump wrote the note on a copy of The Palm Beach Post’s Sunday sports section, on top of an article announcing Shannon’s firing.

‘You made a big mistake when you did not take my advice and hire Mike Leach of Texas Tech ... and you can now get him for the right price,’ Trump wrote to Shalala.

University officials confirmed Wednesday that the note was indeed written by Trump.
