UCLA sophomore forward Reeves Nelson, who logged a pair of double-doubles in leading the Bruins to victories over Pepperdine and Pacific in the NIT Season Tip-Off, has been selected the Pacific 10 Conference’s player of the week.

Nelson tied his career high with 21 points and set a career high with 14 rebounds while playing 37 minutes during UCLA’s 57-44 victory over Pacific. He had 20 points and 11 rebounds during the Bruins’ 79-69 triumph over Pepperdine.

It was the first Pac-10 player-of-the-week honor for Nelson, who is shooting 75% from the field through the first three games of the season. The Bruins (3-0) next play No. 7 Villanova (4-0) at 6 p.m. PST Wednesday at Madison Square Garden in a semifinal of the NIT Season Tip-Off. The game will be televised by ESPN2.

‘It’s a big opportunity because we’re playing against a top-10 team in New York on ESPN,’ Nelson said Friday, ‘so pretty much everyone’s going to be watching who likes college basketball.’
