Carter, who made his NHL debut during the Ducks’ 2007 Stanley Cup championship playoff run, was placed on waivers by the Ducks for the second time in four months on Monday. He cleared waivers Tuesday and was slated to report to the Ducks’ AHL affiliate in Syracuse, N.Y., before the trade was announced.

The Minnesota native has struggled this season, recording three points in 18 games.

Carter joins former Ducks teammate Troy Bodie, who was claimed off waivers by the Hurricanes last week.
