World Series Game 1: Giants defeat Rangers, 11-7
San Francisco used a six-run fifth inning to chase Texas ace Cliff Lee and break up his streak of seven consecutive postseason victories. Texas also committed four errors, ruining their chances of mounting a comeback late in the game.
The much-anticipated pitching duel between Lee and Tim Lincecum never really got going. Lee pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing eight hits and six earned runs while striking out seven. Lincecum got the win, allowing eight hits and four earned runs over 5 2/3 innings.
The Giants led, 11-4, heading into the ninth inning, but reliever Jeremy Affeldt and closer Brian Wilson gave up a combined three runs with two outs. Wilson got Ian Kinsler to pop out to end the game.
