USC just finished a rain-soaked 6 a.m. practice on the artificial surface at Cromwell Field.

Quarterback Matt Barkley is among the players who have taken to the early-morning starts....sort of.

‘You get it over with and you kind of have your afternoons free,’ Barkley said. ‘But I don’t know if I could do it the whole year….6 a.m. is pretty early.’

Coach Lane Kiffin has been pleased with his team’s effort as the Trojans prepare for their Oct. 30 game against top-ranked Oregon.

‘We’re able to get a lot done in a short amount of time,’ he said. ‘And now we’re going back to bed.’
