UCLA announced today that football players Josh Smith and Morrell Presley would not participate in a game against No. 2-ranked Oregon in Eugene on Oct. 21 because they violated team rules.

Smith is a wide receiver and returns kickoffs. Presley plays ‘F-back.’

In a news release from the school, UCLA cited federal and state student privacy laws as the reason it would make no further comment on the matter.

The Times, citing a source inside the UCLA football program, reported in Tuesday’s editions that ‘at least three starters’ were ‘expected to be suspended’ for the Oregon game.

Other players may be going through an appeals process.
