Ducks' Andy Sutton to miss 6 to 8 weeks after thumb surgery

Sutton_300 Ducks defenseman Andy Sutton underwent surgery on his fractured right thumb Tuesday and is expected to be out six to eight weeks, the club announced.

Sutton, signed as a free agent over the summer, injured his thumb in a fight against Red Wings defenseman Ruslan Salei in the Ducks' opener at Detroit last Friday.

The surgery was performed by Dr. Steve Shin at the Kerlan-Jobe Surgery Center in Los Angeles.

The Ducks, who started the season a dismal 0-3, will play their home opener Wednesday against the Vancouver Canucks.
