The Ducks got more good news Thursday, the day after their first win of the season.

Defenseman Toni Lydman, who had yet to make his debut because of an episode of double vision, has received medical clearance to play, the team announced. Lydman has been practicing lightly with the team.

A veteran signed to help compensate for the loss of Scott Niedermayer to retirement, Lydman should help bolster a young defense that has given up shots at an alarming rate in the early going.

The team also announced that defenseman Brett Festerling has been assigned to Syracuse of the American Hockey League.
