Kings make more cuts; Parse slowed by groin, toe injuries

Kings left wing Scott Parse, who has a sore groin in addition to the foot injury he sustained when he was struck by a shot in an exhibition game last Wednesday at Denver, didn’t practice Monday. Coach Terry Murray said Parse, penciled in for the second line this season, won’t play Tuesday when the Kings (1-1-1 in exhibition play) face the Ducks at Staples Center.
Brad Richardson will take Parse’s spot, with Justin Williams on the right and Brayden Schenn at center in place of Jarret Stoll. The switch at center is intended to move Schenn up from the fourth line and into a more offensive role that allows him to showcase his skills.
Parse got through half of Sunday’s practice before leaving the ice for treatment.
“He just needs a little bit of time here to get his body recovered and get back on the ice and stay and get ready to go,” Murray said.
“He’s a key guy. He was a big part of the thought process at the end of the year that he showed some great stuff during the season. We’d like to bring that out on a consistent basis. I was excited about him coming in at the start of the year. I called him several times during the summertime just to see how things were going with the off-ice program, making sure that he’s ready to take advantage of the opportunity, and this happens. And that’s hockey.”
The Kings also assigned forward Oscar Moller and defensemen Andrew Campbell, Johan Fransson and Alec Martinez to Manchester of the American Hockey League. Also headed for Manchester but injured are forwards Ray Kaunisto and Marc-Andre Cliche, and defensemen Viacheslav Voynov and Colten Teubert.
Twenty-nine players remain in camp, including eight healthy defensemen. One veteran defense pair is likely to have the night off Tuesday; Jake Muzzin and Thomas Hickey, who appear to be competing for the last open defense spot, are scheduled to play.
