Kings sign defenseman David Kolomatis

The Kings announced they’ve agreed to a three-year entry-level contract with defenseman David Kolomatis, a fifth-round pick in the 2008 entry draft. According to capgeek.com, the deal is worth $1.615 million.

Kolomatis, 21, played 76 games for the Kings’ top farm team, the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League, last season. He tied for second among club defensemen in points with 29, tied for second among club defensemen in goals with eight, tied for second among club defensemen in assists (21) and tied for first among club defensemen with five power-play goals. He also played in 15 playoff games with the Monarchs, recording an assist and two penalty minutes.

The 5-foot-11, 189-pound Kolomatis is a native of Livingston, N.J. In 2008-09 with Owen Sound of the Ontario Hockey League, he ranked first among club defensemen in points, goals and assists before playing in four regular-season games and 16 postseason games with Providence of the AHL. In 2007-08 with Owen Sound, he ranked first among club defensemen in points, second on the club in assists (first among club defensemen), and in 2006-07 with the same club, he ranked eighth among OHL rookie defensemen in points.
