After spending nearly six months on the sidelines, soccer superstar David Beckham is on the verge of returning to the pitch for the Galaxy.

Beckham was activated from the disabled list by the team Thursday, making the midfielder eligible to play in the Galaxy’s MLS contest against visiting Columbus on Saturday night. Beckham hasn’t played competitively since March 14, when he tore his left Achilles’ tendon while playing with AC Milan.

Beckham has been practicing with the Galaxy since Aug. 10 after spending time with the English national team at the World Cup in South Africa.
