Unbeaten world welterweight champion Andre Berto (26-0, 20 KOs)appears headed to an undercard role in the Nov. 27 main event at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas pitting world lightweight champion Juan Manuel Marquez against Michael Katsidis.

Berto’s promoter, Lou DiBella, told The Times on Tuesday that a Berto title defense against Turkey’s Selcuk Aydin (20-0, 15 KOs) ‘is a possibility’ that ‘should be done this week if it’s going to happen.’

DiBella said another of his talented fighters, Panama’s Celestino Caballero (34-2, 23 KOs), would participate on the Marquez-Katsidis undercard versus New England’s Matt Remillard (22-0, 13 KOs) in a featherweight bout.

Caballero is angling for a shot early next year at Cuba’s world featherweight champion Yuriorkis Gamboa, who will defend his belt Saturday night at the Palms Hotel in Las Vegas against Mexico’s Orlando Salido (34-10-2) on HBO. (That card also includes a good lightweight match between Anthony Peterson (30-0) vs. Oxnard’s Brandon Rios (24-0-1).)

Meanwhile, the ever-evolving boxing schedule could feature a compelling junior-welterweight bout in Las Vegas on Dec. 11. Such a scenario has been pitched for an Amir Khan-Marcos Maidana bout by Khan’s promoter, Richard Schaefer of Golden Boy Promotions, to Khan’s managers. Schaefer said Tuesday he’s waiting to hear.
