Michael Vick won’t be disciplined by NFL

Michael Vick will not be disciplined by the NFL for a shooting that occurred at the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback’s birthday party six weeks ago, Commissioner Roger Goodell told Vick while visiting the Eagles’ training camp Tuesday.

Vick and Goodell spoke on the phone after the shooting but had not met face to face on the matter until Tuesday.

‘I want him to understand that he’s in a different position than others and because of that he has to protect himself differently, and he recognizes that, I think,’ Goodell said.

Vick was told he had no margin for error in his behavior when he signed with the Eagles in August after an 18-month sentence in federal prison for his involvement in a dog-fighting ring.

The NFL released a statement Tuesday, saying Goodell based his decision ‘on his current understanding of the facts.’

The statement also said Goodell, Vick, NFL mentor Tony Dungy and Eagles Coach Andy Reid spoke on the phone weeks ago about ‘the need for additional support measures to be added to Michael’s plan to enhance his opportunity to succeed in life and football. These additional steps will remain confidential, but they will require Michael to meet even higher standards.’
