World Cup: Netherlands vs. Uruguay; Holland beats Uruguay, 3-2

July 6, 2010 |  1:33 pm
Soccer2_400 Uruguay is made sure the Netherlands earned its trip to the final with Maximiliano Perreira's goal three minutes into extra time, pulling the South Americans within a shot of extra time.

But the desperate Uruguayans couldn't get over that final hump with the whistle sounding with the Dutch still in front.

Uruguay had its chances, though, in one of the more exciting finishes of the tournament. The teams went into the second half tied, but the Dutch rallied late in the second half to score two more goals. Uruguay caught a glimmer of hope in extra time, scoring off a free kick in the 91st minute.

But there wasn't enough time for Uruguay to overcome the deficit, and the game ended with Netherlands winning 3-2. Holland will meet the winner of Wednesday's Spain-Germany semifinal in Sunday's title game.
