USC to send back its Reggie Bush Heisman

July 20, 2010 |  2:15 pm

Reggie Bush hasn't been ordered to return his Heisman Trophy, but USC is voluntarily returning the copy it has displayed at Heritage Hall.

Fabforum Near the end of the letter he addressed Tuesday to "Members of the USC Trojan Family," incoming university President Max Nikias dropped this bombshell:

"I have instructed the senior vice president for administration to remove athletic jerseys and murals displayed in recognition of O.J. Mayo and Reggie Bush by mid-August -- before the incoming class of students moves on campus -- from Heritage Hall, the Galen Center,  and the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The university will also return Mr. Bush's 2005 Heisman Trophy to the Heisman Trophy Trust in August."

Nikias wrote that he was making the move because the "Trojan Family honors and respects the USC sporting careers of those persons whose actions did not compromise their athletic program or the opportunities of future USC student-athletes."

Read Nikias' complete statement:

Neither Bush nor a spokesman for the Heisman Trophy Trust could immediately be reached for comment.
