The WNBA gets highest grade from Racial and Gender Report Card

The WNBA earned an A+ for its minority-hiring practices from the Racial and Gender Report Card.

The report said the league remains the best employer for women and people of color in sport. The other two leagues that have received reports were Major League Baseball and the NBA, which received a B+ and an A, respectively.

The number of female head coaches in the WNBA increased 12% this year, to 58%. The league also saw an increase in female CEO-presidents and senior administrators.

The WNBA hired more people of color as general managers, assistant coaches and senior administrators. In addition, Donna Orender remains the only female president of a professional sports league.

The WNBA received a grade below an A only for team vice presidents and team professional positions.

This season 16% of players are white and 69% are African American. The number of white players decreased 4%.
