The horse racing gods are still hoping and wishing for a meeting between unbeaten Zenyatta and last year’s Horse of the Year, Rachel Alexandra.

The New York Daily News has begun speculating that the two could face off on Aug. 29 in the Personal Ensign Stakes at 1 1/4 miles at Saratoga.

The New York Racing Assn. president and CEO, Charles Hayward, says he has spoken to Zenyatta’s connections regarding races at Saratoga and Belmont.

Zenyatta’s owner, Jerry Moss, hasn’t been too enthusiastic about Del Mar’s Polytrack, and is leaving it up to trainer John Shirreffs whether Zenyatta’s next race will be the Clement L. Hirsch Stakes at Del Mar on Aug. 7.

Shirreffs said last week that he’d prefer not shipping Zenyatta but wanted to check out the Del Mar track.

‘The main concern is how she handles the track,’ he said.

Zenyatta is 17 for 17 in her career.
