The Pacific 10 Conference’s annual media day got started Thursday morning with a new look, moved from its usual confines in a hotel ballroom to the 50-yard line at the Rose Bowl.

Conference officials and coaches from all the teams are finishing a three-day tour that took them through New York City and the ESPN headquarters in Bristol, Conn.

‘How fitting a day later, this first-ever media tour is concluding on the field at the Rose Bowl,’ Commissioner Larry Scott said. ‘This is what all 10 coaches and players are playing for all year, to be on this field Jan. 1.’

Tables and tents were set up around the field. There are bouquets of roses -- flown in from Colombia.

The shift required some adjustment on the part of coaches, wearing sunglasses, and players, squinting in the bright sunlight. Officials supplied sunscreen and a cooling tent to the side.
