Padres acquire Miguel Tejada from Orioles

Baltimore infielder Miguel Tejada, who was the 2002 American League MVP, has been acquired by the National League West-leading San Diego Padres in exchange for minor league pitcher Wynn Pelzer.

The Baltimore Sun's Dan Connolly was the first to report the trade.

This season for the Orioles, the 36-year-old Tejada is hitting .269 with seven home runs and 39 RBIs.

Pelzer, a right-hander, is 6-9 this season with a 4.20 ERA in 22 games, including 18 starts, with double-A San Antonio.

A six-time All-Star, Tejada has played 93 games at third base this season but has been primarily a shortstop in his career.
