Nothing much seems to be happening today in the Kings’ negotiations with Ilya Kovalchuk -- or anyone else’s chase of the high-scoring left wing. The initial rush to sign free agents Thursday must have exhausted everyone involved, and combined with the holiday in both countries -- July 1 was Canada Day -- things are slow this weekend.

One item of local interest to report: Pasadena’s Brett Sterling, a former Hobey Baker award finalist while at Colorado College and draft pick of the Atlanta Thrashers, signed with Pittsburgh as a free agent.
