Ilya Kovalchuk‘s agent, Jay Grossman, has tweeted that Kovalchuk, who on Sunday turned down the Kings’ free-agent offer, is “looking to make decision on his future today.”

The New Jersey Devils are now the favorites to sign him, with the New York Post reporting it will be a seven-year, $60-million deal.

If that turns out to be the case, that will be a big drop from the $100-million deal he has been looking for.

Why the discount? Easier travel? A place he’s familiar with after being traded there from Atlanta in February? It’ll be interesting to hear what Kovalchuk has to say.
