Gomez wins SRL Southwest Tour race at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale

Jonathon Gomez, a driver from Twin Falls, Idaho, won the Stockcar Racing League Southwest Tour race at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale on Saturday night.

Gomez led 81 of the last 82 laps of the Spears Manufacturing 100. Derek Thorn, a driver from Bakersfield, took the lead on Lap 99 of the race. But Gomez regained the lead on the last lap and won the race by 0.012 seconds over Thorn.

Gomez won his second SRL Southwest Tour race of the year. He also is racing in Sunday’s NASCAR K&N Pro Series West race in Portland, Ore. He was going to fly to Portland after the race in Irwindale for the West Series race at Portland International Raceway.

Gomez is third in the West Series standings and has two top-five finishes in six races this season.
