Derek Thorn takes over lead in SRL Southwest Tour standings


Derek Thorn, a driver from Bakersfield, took over the lead in the Stockcar Racing League Southwest Tour standings with his runner-up finish at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale on Saturday night.

Thorn entered the race at Irwindale in second place in the Southwest Tour standings, 20 points behind Jim Pettit II of Prunedale.

Jonathon Gomez won the Southwest Tour race at Irwindale, his second victory of the season. Pettit was 13th and dropped to third place in the Southwest Tour standings.

Thorn has a seven-point lead over Gomez after six races. Pettit is 26 points out of first.
