Angels: Rivera out, Thompson up, Bell down

Pregame notes from Angel Stadium:

Outfielder Juan Rivera remained out of the lineup for a third consecutive game. He said his blurred vision has improved, and he took live batting practice.

"We'll wait a couple days and see how he is," Manager Mike Scioscia said.

The Angels sent Trevor Bell to triple-A Salt Lake and recalled reliever Rich Thompson from Salt Lake. If the Angels needed a starter, Scioscia said, their first two options would be Bell and Sean O'Sullivan, and so they did not want to keep both Bell and O'Sullivan in the major league bullpen.

The Angels signed two of their three first-round picks, right-hander Cam Bedrosian and outfielder Chevy Clarke. Bedrosian is at Angel Stadium, along with his father, Steve, the 1987 National League Cy Young Award winner.
