While some may think former Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James turned his back on his hometown by signing with the Miami Heat earlier this month, the player’s hometown of Akron, Ohio, apparently has not turned its back on him.

By unanimous vote, Akron City Council passed a resolution Monday thanking James for ‘his extraordinary basketball accomplishments and his continuing involvement in the Akron community,’ according to the Akron Beacon Journal.

‘No matter what his decision was, he’s still from Akron, Ohio,’ council president Marco Sommerville said. ‘He’s a hometown person who we need to support.’

The resolution detailed James’ accomplishments at St. Vincent-St. Mary High School in Akron and with the Cleveland Cavaliers and his contributions to the city.

Sommerville said he thought the gesture was important because some have the impression that Akron no longer supports James.

Even so, a man in the audience yelled out, ‘’Nay!’’ during the council’s vote.
