Cristiano Ronaldo hasn’t scored for Portugal in 16 months. But he said he isn’t worried heading into the team’s World Cup opener Tuesday with the Ivory Coast.

“Goals,” he said “are like ketchup. You keep forcing it, then it all comes at once.”

And Ronaldo said he plans to empty the bottle in South Africa, predicting a goal eruption.

“When I say erupt … I mean show what I can do. Not just a one-off but to play well at the World Cup,” said Ronaldo, whose last international goal came in a February 2009 friendly with Finland. In competitive matches, he hasn’t scored since the 2008 European Championships.
