Luis Suarez’s goal with three minutes left in the first half sent Uruguay into the locker room at halftime with a 1-0 lead over Mexico in the final game of group play Tuesday.

Suarez beat Mexican defender Francisco Rodriguez to the far post, where he took a nice cross from Edinson Cavani and headed it into the net,

The teams entered the game tied atop the Group A standings with four points, and both were assured a spot in the second round with a tie. But a draw -- or a Uruguayan win -- would also give Uruguay the group’s top seed in the knockout round by virtue of a better goal differential. That, in turn, would send Mexico up against Argentina in the round of 16, while Uruguay would face either Greece or South Korea.
