Wimbledon, England -- After being down two sets to love in his first-round match and dropping another set to a Serbian qualifier in the second round, Roger Federer played more like the six-time Wimbledon champion that he is Friday. Federer beat 86th-ranked Arnaud Clement, 6-2, 6-4, 6-2, in an hour and 35 minutes. Clement, a clever shotmaker, is 32 years old and was a Wimbledon quarterfinalist two years ago. Still, Clement was the oldest man left in the draw.

The three sets Federer had lost coming into the third round was the first time he had lost so many sets and still reached the third round of a Grand Slam tournament.
