Utah is expected to accept.

The formal announcement will come at a news conference scheduled for Thursday at Rice-Eccles Stadium on Utah’s campus.

Utah became the prime target for the Pac-10 after Texas pulled out of a mega-deal Monday to join forces to become the Pac-16. Utah would not have been part of those expansion plans.

Utah joins Colorado in the 12-member Pac-10. The Buffaloes accepted an invitation last week.

The conference probably will divide into two, six-team divisions in football and play a conference title game beginning in 2012.
