UCLA football: Is Coach Rick Neuheisel trying out a new career?

June 15, 2010 | 10:39 am

Rich-video_400 UCLA Coach Rick Neuheisel letting his mind drift back to the 1980s is easy to understand. It was an eventful decade for him.

He overcame food poisoning to lead the Bruins to a 1984 Rose Bowl victory, and was the game’s MVP. He played professionally (sort of) in the United States Football League. He also learned what it was like to cross the picket line, playing for the San Diego Chargers during the 1987 NFL strike.

But some recent 1980s reminiscing by Neuheisel had little to do with football, as he took the stage with ‘80s cover band Flashback Heart Attack at a fundraiser.

Neuheisel played guitar and joined in on the chorus of “Jessie’s Girl,” which raises the question: Has anyone photographed Rick Springfield and Rick Neuheisel together?

But, come on, "Flashback Heart Attack"? Isn't that what will happen to Bruins' fans if UCLA loses to USC again this fall?
