Seattle Seahawks rookie wide receiver Golden Tate had a good reason for a 3 a.m. visit to a gourmet doughnut shop that resulted in a trespass warning from suburban Seattle police.

It was the maple bars. ‘They are irresistible,’ Tate said.

Tate apologized and told reporters after practice Tuesday he was ‘very embarrassed’ about the incident.

‘A buddy made the mistake of going in, grabbing a couple ... We ate them. Nothing much to the story other than that,’ Tate said.

TMZ.com first reported the incident Tuesday.

Seahawks Coach Pete Carroll didn’t seem to concerned about the incident. ‘I do understand the allure of the maple bars,’ he told the Seattle Times.
