Rafael Furcal placed on the bereavement list
Rafael Furcal was placed on the bereavement list on Thursday, allowing him to return to his native Dominican Republic to visit an ailing relative.
Furcal will miss the Dodgers' three-game series in Boston, which starts Friday. Taking his place on the active roster will be Chin-lung Hu, who was recalled from triple-A Albuquerque.
Players can be on the bereavement list for a minimum of three days and a maximum of seven.
With Furcal out of the lineup, Manager Joe Torre moved Blake DeWitt into the leadoff spot on Thursday for the final game of the Dodgers' three-game series in Cincinnati. Jamey Carroll started at shortstop.
