NASCAR Sprint Cup Series practice from Sonoma

Kasey Kahne won the pole for Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Infineon Raceway in Sonoma. He won the Cup race last year in Sonoma.

Marcus Ambrose was the fastest driver in the first Cup practice session on Saturday morning.

Three drivers will be in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West and Cup races in Sonoma. David Gilliland, a driver from Riverside, Boris Said from Carlsbad and Mattias Ekstrom from Sweden qualified for both races.

The first Cup practice session was red-flagged when Sam Hornish Jr. spun out and hit the outside wall in Turn 10. Rookie Kevin Conroy and Bobby Labonte also spun out their cars in the morning practice.

Carl Edwards, Brad Keselowski and Paul Menard are in Wisconsin for a NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Road America. They will return to Sonoma on Sunday for the Cup race.

Bill Elliott drove the car for Edwards and Menard in practice on Saturday. Kurt Busch took Keselowski’s car out for practice during the second session.
