Kings’ second-round pick: Tyler Toffoli

With the 47th pick, the Kings chose center Tyler Toffoli from Ottawa of the Ontario Hockey League, who had been ranked 16th by the NHL’s Central Scouting Bureau.

Toffoli had 37 goals and 79 points last season for the 67s. He’s 6 feet tall, 181 pounds and supposedly needs to improve his skating skills, though he has a good scoring touch.

Toffoli’s drop to the second round continued a trend that began Friday, when a number of players expected to go in the top five, 10 or even 20 had to wait for their names to be called because an expected trend toward drafting defenseman didn’t materialize.
