Top draft prospects to skate in El Segundo on Thursday ... and other hockey notes

Six players projected to be among the top picks at the NHL’s entry draft Friday at Staples Center will participate in a youth clinic Thursday morning at the Kings’ practice facility in El Segundo. The event will start at 10:30 a.m. and is open to the public.

Tyler Seguin, Taylor Hall, Brett Connolly, Erik Gudbranson, Cam Fowler and Long Beach native Emerson Etem are scheduled to participate in the hour-long clinic along with 30 local youth hockey players.

Kings broadcasters Jim Fox and Daryl Evans are expected to participate, and Willie O’Ree, the first black player in the NHL, will lead a goals-setting discussion.

The draft will be held over two days, with the first round to start at 4 p.m. Friday and the last six rounds to start at 10 a.m. Saturday. The Stanley Cup and other major NHL trophies will be displayed at Staples Center in the Budweiser Lounge (formerly known as the Royal Room) on Friday before the start of the first round of the draft. All fans with a ticket can view and take photos with the Stanley Cup and other trophies from 2-3:30 p.m. Doors to the arena open at 2 p.m. Fans can begin entering the seating areas at Staples Center for the draft starting at 3 p.m.

Also Friday, the NHL will hold a draft festival at L.A. Live Plaza. It will be open to the public from noon to 9 p.m.

Next week, the Kings will conduct their annual development camp in El Segundo. Participants will include players in the Kings’ farm system and players who have been drafted but not signed. The three-day event will start Wednesday and all on-ice sessions will be open to the public.
