Kansas City to host baseball's 2012 All-Star game

Commissioner Bud Selig made good on a promise, awarding the Kansas City Royals the 2012 All-Star game, which is tentatively scheduled to be played on July 10.

Selig, in announcing the decision, cited the refurbished Kauffman Stadium as a key reason the Royals' bid won out.

In 2006, the commissioner had promised that Kansas City would get an All-Star game between 2010 and 2014 if a tax referendum to fund stadium renovations passed. Voters in Jackson County did just that, and the $275-million refurbishment was completed in 2009.

This year's All-Star game is being hosted by the Angels and will be played at Anaheim Stadium on July 13.
