Outfielder Mike Trout, who has emerged as one of baseball’s best prospects since the Angels selected him in the first round of last year’s draft, will play his first game at Angel Stadium on July 11.

He has not been called up to the major leagues, not straight out of Class A. But on Tuesday he was one of 50 players chosen for the Futures Game, the annual showcase of top minor league talent held two days before the All-Star game.

Angels infielder Luis Jimenez also was selected to play. The Dodgers will be represented by shortstop Dee Gordon, the son of former major league pitcher Tom Gordon, and infielder Pedro Baez.

Trout leads the Midwest League with a .370 batting average at Class-A Cedar Rapids. He also leads the league in hits, stolen bases and on-base percentage.
