This time, Izturis is the injured Angels' shortstop

On the day after the Angels learned starting shortstop Erick Aybar had what the team called "damage" to his left knee, the Angels scratched backup shortstop Maicer Izturis because of stiffness in his left forearm. Brandon Wood is in Wednesday's lineup at shortstop.

Manager Mike Scioscia said Izturis had complained of discomfort while swinging in the batting cages before Tuesday's game, although Izturis played. Scioscia said Izturis would be examined Wednesday afternoon but was not sure whether he would undergo an MRI examination.

"Hopefully, it's not anything long-term," Scioscia said.

The Angels are off Thursday. They plan to activate catcher Jeff Mathis from the disabled list on Friday and could put Aybar or Izturis on the disabled list if warranted.
