Angels shortstop Erick Aybar was diagnosed with what the team called ‘meniscal damage’ after Dr. Lewis Yocum reviewed the MRI examination of Aybar’s left knee. The Angels said Aybar would be re-evaluated Friday.

The meniscus essentially is knee cartilage, absorbing weight and providing stability. The Angels did not say whether the meniscus is torn and, if so, whether the injury might require surgery. Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Miguel Montero required two months to recover from April surgery to repair a torn meniscus.
