USC football: Matt Barkley's hand to be examined Tuesday

Barkley_300 USC quarterback Matt Barkley, who suffered a hand injury during the Trojans' spring-ending scrimmage Saturday at the Coliseum, will be examined Tuesday, an athletic department spokesman said.

Barkley was hurt early in the second half when his right hand hit the helmet of defensive tackle Jurrell Casey after releasing the ball on a 41-yard touchdown pass to receiver Travon Patterson.

Barkley sat out the remainder of the scrimmage and wore an icepack on the back of his hand. He said he did not think the injury was serious.

In January, Barkley had surgery on his right wrist but showed no ill effects during the Trojans' 15 spring workouts.
