Jerry Buss

Buss_240 The call went out for readers to send in their top 10 Lakers of all time, and the response was overwhelming. Now, 6,837 ballots later, we are proud to present the readers' picks. We will unveil one per day, beginning with this post, until the entire top 10 is revealed.

Remember, points were awarded for each ballot, with first place worth 12 points, second place worth nine, third place worth eight, all the way down to one point for 10th place.

Without further ado, here is No. 10:

10. Jerry Buss (203 first-place votes, 9,352 points)

Jerry Buss purchased the Lakers in 1979, and under his esteemed ownership they have won nine NBA championships with such players as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Magic Johnson, James Worthy, Shaquille O'Neal and Kobe Bryant.

Before becoming involved with the Lakers and other sports franchises, Buss pursued a career in academia. By age 24, he had earned a master's and doctorate in physical chemistry from USC. 

Buss was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame on April 5.
