Lawrence Taylor arrested in connection with rape investigation

Taylor_240NFL Hall of Famer Lawrence Taylor was arrested Thursday in connection with a reported rape at a hotel in Montebello, N.Y., according to the Associated Press.

Ramapo police Det. Lt. Brad Weidel said the former New York Giants linebacker has not been formally charged. Police said they would hold a news conference Thursday afternoon, and declined to elaborate further.

Taylor, 51, was named the NFL most valuable player in 1986, and led the Giants to Super Bowl titles in 1987 and 1991. He was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 1999.

The former football star has had a highly publicized struggle with drug addiction and multiple run-ins with the law.

Update: Taylor has been charged with third-degree rape.
