As expected, struggling Angels third baseman Brandon Wood was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday because of a right hip flexor strain, and infielder Maicer Izturis (inflamed shoulder) was activated off the DL. The move will enable Wood, who is batting .156, a chance to find his swing during a minor league rehabilitation assignment.

Center fielder Torii Hunter will not be available for Tuesday night’s game against the Blue Jays because he returned to Texas to attend a graduation ceremony for one of his sons. Reggie Willits will start in center field and bat ninth, and Hunter is expected to return in time for Wednesday’s series finale against Toronto.

In addition, the Angels optioned reliever Bobby Cassevah to triple-A Salt Lake and recalled right-handed reliever Francisco Rodriguez from triple-A.
